Third stage of Baltic cup in alpine skiing in Finland

From 14th to 22nd of March in Pyhä (Finland) Latvian Skiing Association will organize the third stage of Baltic cup in alpine skiing, which will include four from all five disciplines, except the speed discipline downhill. For the third year in a row the Baltic cup in Finland will involve FIS races in slalom, but for the first time alpine skiers will compete also in FIS giant slalom. Three youth groups – U16, U14 and U12 – as well as Masters will compete only in Baltic cup in four disciplines – Super-G, Alpine combined, giant slalom and slalom. Competitors from all three Baltic countries as well as from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Italy, Russia, Belarus, Slovakia, Czech Republic and some other countries will take part this year.
This is second season, when Latvian Skiing Association organises three stages of Baltic cup in alpine skiing, meanwhile, elite and juniors in all three stages competes in FIS races. Second year in a row the Baltic cup will take place in Finland’s northern village Pyhä, which is around 1000km to north from capital Helsinki. Last three years in Baltic cup in Finland has been introduced something new – 2013 Alpine combined discipline, in 2014 first time FIS race in slalom, in 2015 three days of FIS slalom, and also this year is provided something new, namely, also giant slalom will be as FIS race.
On Sunday,13th of March, is official training day, but Baltic cup will start on Monday, March 14, when Elite, juniors and Masters will compete in two disciplines – Super G and Alpine Combination. On Tuesday youth groups will start their Baltic cup campaign in those two abovementioned disciplines, and will continue with giant slalom and slalom next two days. Friday, March 18, is free day, when youth groups and Masters are leaving, but FIS competition racers arriving, because on 19th of March will start FIS races, when alpine skiers will compete in giant slalom, and by the way, two times that day in that discipline, but afterwards in slalom the following three days until March 22, when is the closing day not only for the third stage, but also for this season of Baltic cup in alpine skiing.
