UPDATE (17.01.2011) - Due to warm weather and lack of snow in Latvia we are forced to ask You to wait with booking team flights for Double European Cup (snowboardcross) on 28-29th January in Ozolkalns, Cesis (Latvia). We are still optimists and hope that it will become colder and we will be able to make the races happen. The responsible decision will be made till 17th January (latest), please check for information on fis-ski.com or here.
Team entries are still very welcomed. Due to these conditions we have decided to prolong the accommodation and transportation deadlines, so requests made after 8th January will be provided.
From 28th till 29th January, Latvia will host the fourth stage of European cup in Snowboardcross. It will be just the second time Latvia will host such a high level competition in this Olympic Snowboard discipline, but for the first time – two European cup competitions will take place. Therefore Latvian Skiing association appreciates this opportunity entrusted by the FIS.
Last season in the beginning of February Latvia experienced historic moment, by hosting European cup competition in snowboardcross for the first time. After successful inauguration Latvian snowboardcross fans will be able to watch the best European athletes also upcoming season, because Ozolkalns track near city Cesis, where EC took place last season, will host the EC stage also on January next year. It was a great challenge for such a flat country like Latvia to organize EC in snowboardcross, what nobody in this Baltic state could dream about even few years ago. Latvian Skiing association, local municipality of Cesis, track author Andris Vasins and owners of the Ozolkalns slope did a great job to do all the necessary preparations in order for competition to run smoothly, and it was praised by technical delegate Daniel Andenmatten, who also helped with necessary advice.
Ozolkalns track near city Cesis is located on beautiful valley of 452km long and very winding river Gauja and is the only track in Baltic states where such a high level competition in snowboardcross can take place. Course, taking into account the relief of country, is not the fastest, but is made very interestingly. Fourth stage of European cup in Latvia is planned as a good route for athletes, because it is just next weekend after World cup in Switzerland and one before the fifth stage of European cup in Kongsberg (Norway), where to is very convenient connection flights from Latvian capital Riga.
